List servers maintain a list of e-mail addresses to which postings are
automatically distributed. These lists function much like a bulletin board where
persons interested in a particular topic post questions, comments, and replies to
the postings of others.
Newsgroups and the
Microscopy Online Bulletin Board
also perform a similar function.
To use a list server you must send an e-mail message containing a subscribe
command to a special e-mail address. Once you are subscribed you will begin to
receive a copy of all messages sent to the list. Messages are sent to the list by
e-mailing to another special address. For specific details please see the
