I have extensive experience on the study of materialsÕ reliability and structure-properties relationship using transmission electron microscopy. During my study of Ph.D degree with Dr. Lourdes Salamanca-Riba, we have performed studies to improve the lifetime of II-VI light emitting diodes (with 3M Co. II-VI laser group) and the performance of InSb-based position sensor (with Dale Partin in GM Co.). In addition, I have worked with Dr. Ron Anderson (from IBM East Fishkill) on the TEM and SEM analysis of Si circuits. Currently, I am a research fellow in Joint Research Center for Atom Technology (JRCAT) and have close collaboration with members in several groups for materialsÕs characterization. These studies include the reliability in ZnSe/GaAs, nucleation process and selectivity control of Si on Si using plasma - enhanced CVD, structural study of MBE grown GaN/GaAs, structural-magnetic properties in MnSb/GaAs and MnGa/GaAs, and formation of nanostructure in Mn-doped low temperature growth GaAs. During my stay in JRCAT since May of 1995, I have participated the ideas and development of processes in two patents related to the reliability and doping issues in ZnSe/GaAs. Based on my previous and current collaboration experience with groups working in industry and research institute, I am familiar with the study of materials using transmission electron microscopy. I can provide close interaction and support with other group members in team problem solving. Attached please find my resume that decribes my qualification for the position. Please forgive this posting if it is not relevant to this BB. This week, I\'m reporting and writing an annual update on microscopes in the life sciences. The article is for a weekly newspaper called The Scientist. I\'m looking for a few well-informed people who can talk about the latest trends in microscope use by professionals in the life sciences. I\'m looking for an overview, perhaps within certain specialty subsgroups, with a few specific examples. * Is new equipment enabling researchers to do things not possible a year or so ago? * Are new techniques making existing microscope technology more useful? * Any discoveries or advances in the past year or so that would have been impossible with out these new microscopes and/or techniques? * What\'s hot now, and where are things headed in the next five years? * What needs do researchers have, and how are manufacturers and suppliers meeting those needs? The Scientist is mostly read by molecular biologists and pharmacologists, but the newspaper\'s audience also includes chemists, immunologists, biochemists, cell biologists, neuroscientists, physiologists. I am seeking a position where my background and experience may be utilized. I am willing to accept responsibility and look forward to challenging opportunities which enable me to grow. I have a strong drive to learn all that I can so that I am an asset to wherever I am working. As part of my thesis work which was cellular and morphological, I investigated the morphological and biochemical characteristics of the extracellular matrix of invertebrate eggs. This work has revealed that the egg coats swell when released into seawater and that this extracellular matrix is composed of many types of sugar moieties , and ECM proteins as revealed by lectin and antibody immunofluorescence labeling. I have these qualifications : Expertise in Transmission Electron Microscopy (Phillips 201, Phillips CM12STEM and Hitachi 7000) model microscopes. Knowledge and experience with ultra-low temp fixation protocols including Quick-freeze/ Deep etch/ rotary shadowing. Utilized Electron Microscopy both Transmission and Scanning electron microscopy for independent research . Knowledge and experience in the technique of molecular rotary shadowing for TEM. Knowledge of basic biochemistry skills (SDS PAGE, native gels, westerns, and column chromatography, protein assays). Instructed undergraduate laboratory class in Mammalian Physiology. Immunolabeling techniques for light microscopy (direct/lectins, indirect labeling with antibodies) and electron microscopy (immunogold). Expertise in Photomicrography on Nikon, Olympus and Zeiss (Light and EM level) and darkroom skills. Proficient with Wordperfect, Quattro Pro, Sigmaplot, Sigmastat, Macromedia Freehand, Adobe Photoshop. Proficient with a Compix (c-imaging) image analysis system and CSPI (Scanalytics) deconvolution software. I have also learned the following techniques: sectioning (ultramicrotome),spectrofluorimetry, spectrophotometry, biochemistry skills, darkroom techniques and computer based image analysis. The results of the first part on my research were published in Molec. Biol. Cell. 5, 94a and Micros. Res. Tech., 29, (6) 495. (see resume). These results were also presented at the 1994 annual meeting in San Francisco of the American Society for Cell Biology, and the California State University EM symposium in 1994 and 1996. Preperation for the electronic conference is still in its early stages and any input (discussion topics, suggested conveners, short courses literature/product reviews etc.) would be greatly appreciated. You can add your name to this mailing list by sending an e-mail to ac-request\@vei.co.uk leaving the subject line blank and subscribe as the message body (no signatures). Once accepted you will be sent a mail welcoming you to the mailing list and explaining how to post a message. Among some of the areas we hope to include in discussion will be topical aspects of: **Microscopy **NMR, IR, UV, HPLC and GC. **Electrochemistry. **AA, ICP and ICPMS. **Macromolecular and Small molecule Crystallography. **Analytical techniques. **Method development and validation procedures. **Bioanalytical forum. **MS and applied topics. **Capillary Chromatography & Electrophoresis. **Statistical analysis of data. Any suggested additions may be made through the mailing list above. Authors can opt to have their presentation in the following categories: - non-permanent WWW presentation of a conference poster - non-permanent WWW presentation of a conference lecture - refereed WWW presentation which will be considered for print publication as a full paper in Critical Reviews in Analytical Chemistry. - refereed WWW presentation which will be considered for permanent electronic publication in the Internet Journal of Chemistry (IJC), http://www.ijc.com/ During the conference interaction, presentations and discussions will take place via the Internet using a Java-based virtual conference centre, WWW-based discussion forums and an electronic mailing list. Before the conference, a timetable for lectures and discussion sessions for each section will be posted. Since these realtime discussions are an integral part of the conference, authors will be expected to attend one for their subject; the right is reserved not to referee submissions by authors who do not attend one of these sessions. The Conference will feature a Virtual Exhibition where exhibitors will be able to describe the activities of their organization, display their products and services and interact with registrants.
